Young Sinatra IV Review

Logic's latest album, Young Sinatra IV, marks a significant departure from his usual flow. The rapper has been dedicated to fitting in with the Wu-Tang Clan, an affiliation that yields some impressive results. However, this fusion comes at the cost of Logic's signature solo style.

The album's most notable track is 'Wu-Tang Forever,' which features every living member of the Wu-Tang Clan. While it may have been ambitious to bring together such a large group, the result feels weightless and overly long. The six-minute track would have benefited from some editing to make the most of its potential.

In contrast, Logic's tribute to Mac Miller, 'Life's A Bitch,' is a standout moment on the album. Sampling Nas and AZ's classic track, Logic delivers a solid performance without trying too hard. Unfortunately, this level of focus is not consistent throughout the album.

Young Sinatra IV's most memorable moments come when Logic lets his guard down and stops trying to be a rap guru. When he focuses on rapping instead of lecturing, he produces some genuinely enjoyable tracks. However, these instances are few and far between, often lost amidst lengthy, rambling verses.

Logic's obsession with his legacy drives him to create tracks that exceed the two-verse mark, violating one of 2018's most important rap truisms. While he can certainly rap, his attempts at grandeur often fall flat. With Young Sinatra IV, Logic shows glimpses of potential but ultimately fails to deliver a cohesive and engaging album.
